PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A man died after a multiple vehicle accident in West Phoenix on Wednesday night, which police said could have been caused by a disabled woman who ran over a red light. According to Phoenix Police, officers responded to the accident on Cactus Road east of 43rd Avenue around 6 p.m. with a Toyota Camry. A nearby BMW was hit by debris from the chain reaction. Police said people in Camry and BMW were not injured. Police said the woman who drove the Yukon may have been compromised and was driving too fast. The unidentified woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to the fire department, a total of nine people were involved in two cars and two SUVs. Crews had to get one of the victims out of the wreck. According to the Phoenix Fire Department, a man in his 50s driving the Highlander was also rushed to the hospital in critical condition. 35-year-old Paul Cosma, the passenger on the Highlander, was taken to hospital in extremely critical condition, police said, but later died of his injuries. Two young girls in the back seat of the Highlander, a 7 year old and a 5 year old, have been rushed to hospital with minor injuries and are said to be fine. The intersection was closed for several hours while officials investigated Wednesday night. According to the police, the investigation is ongoing.
