The colorful Asian restaurant Wok ‘N Roll in Scottsdale has opened a second location in Central Phoenix and offers its creative mix of Chinese, sushi and sports along with refreshing cocktails, classic rock and extravagant memorabilia. Founder and CEO Scott Stuart, a longtime media manager turned restaurateur, opened the first Wok ‘N Roll on what he calls “the gateway to Old Town Scottsdale” at Miller and Camelback in June 2018. The concept was successful. Now, after a year challenged by COVID-19, a new location has been added in Phoenix and opened on the southeast corner of Central and Thomas, 2801 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004. When we decided to open in Scottsdale the name went without saying. We serve delicious sushi and Chinese favorites and put a smile on our customers’ faces with a little edgy disrespect. “Wok ‘N Roll appeals to boomers AND younger audiences who have grown up listening to their parents’ rock music over the years. It’s a fun, welcoming atmosphere, and rewarding for us because we appeal to a wide audience. We’re excited to bring our concept to Central Phoenix. ”Accountant by trade, Stuart attributes part of his hyper work ethic to his youth, who worked at McDonald’s and even attended the global brand’s Hamburg University. After college, he ended up on Wall Street and then with national and local radio companies on both coasts, including Phoenix. It was the golden era of radio releasing the latest and greatest rock hits, and Stuart created countless marketing programs to promote his restaurant advertisers. Loving the restaurant business, he eventually combined his love of music and restaurants and opened his first: O’Mally’s Sports, Spirits & Grill in Phoenix. It was a hit. A few years later, he left the business to raise his daughter. In 2018 he was back and bought the former J’s Kaiyo Sushi in Scottsdale, changed the concept and added the new name Wok ‘N Roll. Business was great, then COVID-19 hit. But his experience in radio advertising also came into play. Stuart says, “Last year when we were only allowed to take away, I hung up on the deck in Scottsdale. People gathered in the parking lot. Then I made roast pork for fans to remember the smells of our kitchen. More people gathered. So when we were able to increase utilization, we got out of COVID a lot. ”Sushi and Asian cuisine, he suspects, are usually not prepared at home, so there is a need to build customers for customers. Wok ‘n Roll offers a fun, casual dining experience that includes homemade noodle or rice bowls, traditional Chinese specialties, and sushi, along with an eclectic list of starters like pot stickers, big eye tuna, chicken wings, or cucumber salad. Not to be outdone by the great food, handmade cocktails serve as conversation starters, for example 2 Tickets 2 Paradise ”is Absolut Mandarin, Aperol and“ Wok ‘N Roll White Ale ”Smokin’ in the Boys Room offers a Rosemary Smoke Infused Cocktail with Japanese Suntory Toki Whiskey with Lillet Blanc and Domine De Canton Ginger Liqueur; and a Bohemian Rhapsody starts with Ginger Vodka, Blood Orange Liqueur, Lemon Juice, Lemongrass Syrup and Club Soda. Not to be missed is the sake and a first class boutique collection of beers and wines. The new location is 4,000 square feet compared to the 2,700 square feet in Scottsdale. The new Phoenix spot features red and black booths, crystal chandeliers that change color, rock ‘n roll memorabilia, and clippings of classic rock lyrics emblazoned on gray-green walls. The final bill is presented to the guests in the restaurant on 8 classic tracks. Wok ‘n Roll nights.
