Spencer Blake leaves Arizona’s family stations in Phoenix.
Blake, a reporter and presenter who joined the network in early 2018, announced on social media on Wednesday that he would work as the public information officer for the city of Phoenix.
Its last day of broadcast is Friday, December 10th.
“I need an opportunity that just works better with family life,” Blake told The Arizona Republic. “I loved the television news. There was a lot of fun.”
It wasn’t just the effort to work on the news that led to his decision, Blake said.
“I’m just excited to be able to tell stories with a team of creative people,” he said. “I don’t have to give up what I’ve learned.”
Blake said it wasn’t necessarily the COVID-19 pandemic that prompted him to re-evaluate his career, as some others did.
“When my wife and I discussed leaving the TV news, it was very difficult for me,” he said. “That’s what I do.”
Gradually that changed.

Blake joined Arizona’s family after working in San Francisco
“For the past year and a half, I’ve been content with leaving television instead of dreading it for a variety of reasons,” he said.
Blake joined Arizona’s family from KRON in San Francisco. Prior to that, he worked in Boise, Idaho and Wichita Falls, Texas.
“I’ve never regretted working in it,” he said of the news business. “But I don’t think I’ll regret trying something new either.”
Blake was born in Midland, Texas and is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He and his wife Whitney adopted two sons and also have a foster child.
“I think it will be better for my heart and family to stop watching the TV news,” Blake said.
This will be the first job change that doesn’t require a move, he said.
“We want to put down roots here. … It was a good trip. “
