PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – The Arizona State Fair 2021 will finally take place at the State Fairgrounds on 19th Avenue and McDowell Road, and not as previously announced at Wild Horse Pass away from the state fairgrounds to a new home at Wild Horse Pass in near Chandler in the Gila River Indian Community. It has been said that it is a “temporary” move to make the state fairground available for public health needs such as COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. In 2021, the Arizona State Fair will move to the Wild Horse Pass near Chandler, but now, according to the fair officials, the organizers could not “secure the necessary infrastructure” to hold the fair this fall on the Gila River Indian Community reservation. That prompted the return to the central Phoenix location. The website states that COVID-19 has created supply chain problems across the country, causing delays in the materials and deliveries necessary to reschedule the event in a timely manner. “Due to the limited timeframe and delivery bottlenecks, it makes most sense to leave the show at its current location for 2021,” said Jonathan Lines, chairman of the Arizona Exposition and State Fair Board. Officials from the Gila River Indian Community and Arizona State Fair say they will continue to evaluate the possibility of moving the event to the reservation next year, “which is mutually beneficial,” Lines said. The Arizona State Fair 2021 opens on Thursday October 2 and runs through Saturday October 30 at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in downtown Phoenix.
