The Secretary of Transportation is expected to highlight how Arizona could benefit from a $ 1 trillion infrastructure package recently passed by Congress. PHOENIX – Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg plans to visit the valley this Friday to promote a $ 1.1 trillion infrastructure bill signed by President Joe Biden earlier this week. 12 News has learned that Buttigieg is planning to attend an event at a future light rail terminal that is part of Valley Metro’s northwest extension of public transportation. The 39-year-old former mayor and former presidential candidate will soon oversee the nation’s largest injection of cash into the transportation sector since the 1950s. Buttigieg’s agency is tasked with distributing $ 120 billion in grants provided by the Infrastructure Act. In July, when members of Congress were negotiating the infrastructure bill, Buttigieg traveled through Arizona to see how the state could benefit from the legislation. Biden nominated Buttigieg for oversight of the country’s Department of Transportation last December, and he was confirmed in the Senate by 86-13 votes.
