PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A Phoenix man planned to marry his children’s mother only to be lost in a car accident on Saturday. “It’s like one day she’s just there and then she’s just gone,” said Ruben Villalpando after losing the love of his life, Dominica Fuller-Cordova. Villalpando clings to his young children and tries to cope with becoming a single father. “She loved her babies so much, dude, so much like they loved her so much,” said Villalpando. The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital in serious condition. She died in the hospital from her injuries. Phoenix police said Dominica was killed in a car accident near 51st Avenue and Van Buren on Saturday. Villalpando said the mother of five was running an errand when the accident happened. “I usually kiss her every time she leaves, but she said, ‘It’s only 10 minutes away. I’ll be back,'” said Villalpando. When the time passed and Villalpando could not reach Dominica, he said he found out that she had had a bad accident. Villalpando said he had rushed to the hospital but it was too late. “Just knowing that she was gone when I was there was so difficult,” said Villalpando. Police believe Dominica was going too fast when the accident happened. Officials said the other driver sustained life-threatening injuries. “Now it’s just memories, and now I just have to live for my children and make sure that my children remember them and how they were,” said Villalpando, he says, Dominica’s memory will live on through the children. The family said they also recently learned that organ donation has saved lives. Villalpando said this GoFundMe page will help with funeral expenses and childcare.
