ELON, NC – Elon University volleyball rounds off its home stand with a CAA series against UNCW this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17. October, at the Schar Center. Sunday’s game marks Senior Day for the Phoenix (11-7, 6-2 CAA), and the team will recognize Seniors Kellyn Trowse, Julia Crabtree and Natalie Cummins before serving. COVERAGE Live stats will be available and both games will be streamed live on FloSports. ABOUT THE PHOENIX – Elon shared his CAA series with James Madison last weekend at Schar Center. After the Dukes won the first meeting on Saturday 3-2, the Phoenix reacted with a clear victory on Sunday. – After Towson fell in five straight sets in Charleston on Sunday, Elon is back at the top of the league. – Four of Elon’s six Conference wins were against teams that played in the CAA Championship tournament last spring. – In the latest RPI leaderboard, which reflects games through October 10th, the Phoenix ranks 69th. JMU ranks a few places ahead of Maroon and Gold at 62nd, and Towson is ranked 82nd. UNCW enters the weekend in 322nd place. – Leah Daniel leads Elon with 287.5 points and 264 kills this season. Sydney Love is next with 153 kills, Jenn Krzeminski is up to 109 kills and Cummins has 100. Haylie Clark has 613 assists and is level with Alex VanWestrienen and Krzeminski for team high in service aces at 20. Jordan Gower anchors the back row with 284 excavations, followed by VanWestrienen with 124, Trowse with 121 and Clark with 119. On the net, Krzeminski and Cummins have recorded 75 and 52 blocks respectively. – In the October 14th games, Daniel ranks 36th in the nation with 4.12 in kills per set, 39th in total kills and 49th in attacks per set with 10.89. Clark leads the conference with 9.58 assists per set and is runner-up with a total of 613 assists. Gower is second in the league at 4.44 digs per set, while Krzeminski is third in the CAA for hit rate (0.349) and blocks per set (1.19). – As a team, the Phoenix ranks second in the CAA in hit rate (0.242) and kills per set (12.62), third in assists per set (11.53) and fourth in blocks per set (2 , 12). THE SERIES – UNCW is part of the all-time series on April 24-17. However, Elon has won the last two meetings. – The teams last met on March 6-7. March last spring at the Schar Center. After defeating the Seahawks in five sets in the first game, the Phoenix took a 3-1 win in the second game. – Elon had three double-double efforts that Saturday: Clark got 22 assists with 10 kills, Kodi Garcia landed with 19 assists and 11 digs, and Daniel got 19 kills with 10 digs on the team. – In the second match, Clark came close to a triple-double with 21 assists, 11 kills and 8 digs. – It was the first time since 1999 that Elon beat the UNCW twice in one season and also opened a five-game winning streak, while the Phoenix followed with wins over UNCG, Davidson and James Madison. SCOUTING UNCW – The Seahawks are eighth in the CAA rating with an overall score of 2-15 and a score of 1-5 in the league game – UNCW was voted eighth in the CAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll with 17 points. Kirsten Badowski received the Honorable Mention. UNCW wins include a 3-1 win over North Alabama on August 28th and a 3-1 win over Northeastern on October 2nd when the Seahawks featured their CAA series split up the huskies. – UNCW is looking to break a skid in three games after a five-set loss to Northeastern on October 3rd and two losses to Delaware October 9-10. – The Seahawk attack is led by Katie Lanz (170 kills) and Brianna Haggerty (148 kills). Claire Sawyer is the primary setter with 371 assists and Annabelle Schall is next with 152 assists. Ashley Thompson and Haggerty are the top servers for UNCW with 18 and 13 aces respectively. Quinn Manley leads the defensive effort with 204 digs, and Brooke Hanshumaker made 39 blocks as the team best. NEXT – Elon will travel to Boston, Massachusetts for two CAA games in the Northeast October 23-24. –ELON–
