PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A fire destroyed a hair salon in downtown Phoenix early Thursday morning. The Phoenix Fire Department was called to the store near 7th Street and Missouri Avenue just after 2 a.m. -Foot flames burn through the roof of the two-story building. Scott Douglas of the Phoenix Fire Department says more than 50 firefighters responded to the secondary alarm fire. No firefighters were injured. The fire also damaged the building north of the salon, an occupational and physiotherapy clinic called Head Toe Therapy. A single fire engine was still on site and spilled water on the ruins of the Douglas building at 6:30 a.m., according to fire investigators, the fire investigators are on site to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Hours after the flames broke out in the building, Tanner Smith came to work, ready for a typical Thursday. Smith works at German Auto Service, the building next door where the fire happened. “I went into the parking lot and it was just hazy and full of smoke,” said Smith. “It was pretty intense.” What began as astonishment became a concern for Smith. “It’s still sad that the building is gone,” said Smith. “I know that sometimes there are people who live behind it. The homeless came by and used it as a shelter. “The German car service only had slight charring on the side of their building next to ours collapse, it was scary,” said Smith. “We have a lot of private cars here on our property that are expensive and not ours. “Smith says the building, which was on fire, has been abandoned for some time.
