PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A man was arrested in connection with a weekend shooting in Phoenix that killed two men. According to Phoenix Police, officers responded to reports of a shooting near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. The officers arrived and found two men dead who had been shot multiple times. A witness told officers they saw a Hispanic man kill both victims. Undercover officers went to the La Quinta Inn near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road and spoke to management, who confirmed that the suspect, 32-year-old Joshua Bivens, was staying in one of the rooms. Detectives watched the room and saw Bivens limping out of the room. Officials arrested and interviewed Bivens around 3 p.m. after being treated for a gunshot wound in a local hospital. According to court documents, Bivens told detectives he was shot dead in the double homicide area early Sunday morning. Bivens reportedly said he agreed to commit an armed robbery on one of the two victims and to help three other people. Bivens said he was given a gun and told him to act as “security” during the robbery and receive a share of the stolen money. Bivens stood in a parking lot next to it while saying the other suspects lured the victims out of an apartment. The suspects allegedly drew a gun, tried to rob the victims and got into a brawl. One of the suspects shot both victims and Bivens was also hit by a bullet, police said. The suspects took property from the victim’s home and drove away in a vehicle. Because of his association with robbery and murder, Bivens has recommended charges of first degree murder and armed robbery with a lethal weapon. Bivens is being held in prison without any ties. No further information was available on the other alleged suspects in the shooting. Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Rundfunkgesellschaft). All rights reserved.
