PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Family photos show the kind of devoted father Sam Casas who always made time for his son Jayden, 8. Their close bond is why it was so difficult for Jayden’s mother, Dakota Baker, to tell her boy that his father was murdered. The police are still looking for the shooters. (Source: GoFundMe) “He misses his father very much,” said Baker. “He was more than just a father, he was his best friend, his hero. With him he was robbed of his lifelong memories.” The 30-year-old mechanic father was shot and killed on August 7 in front of his apartment complex on Ninth Street and Bell Road in Phoenix. The police assume that it was a robbery. Witnesses told police that around 9 a.m., some men approached Casas’ car, opened fire, and then drove away. No arrests were made. “It’s like a punch in the pit of the stomach,” said Baker. “We know we can’t just call him or visit him at work or visit him and have dinner together.” About six years ago, Casas was paralyzed from the waist down after a tree-pruning accident. But that didn’t stop him from getting on with his life. His family never thought that tragedy would strike again. “He didn’t deserve that,” said Baker. “My son doesn’t deserve to cry and have nightmares at night because he is now afraid that something will happen to me and that he will be left alone.” Jayden, 8, had a close relationship with his father, Sam Casas, who was killed in an attempted robbery. A GoFundMe page was set up to help Jayden and his mother with expenses as the boy grew up without his father. Jayden’s mom hopes she’ll help the police catch the killer by sharing her story. “I don’t want anyone else to go through what my son and I are going through,” said Baker.
