It happened just after 2 a.m. near State Route 51 and Indian School Road. (Source: 3TV / CBS 5) The first calls reported a burning garbage can. When the fire department arrived on site, a large rubbish bin was on fire. The flames had spread to the eaves of the building. Because the building is so big, more firefighters have been sent. The crews would have the fire under control quickly, said Captain Scott Douglas of the Phoenix Fire Department. By 5 a.m., the firefighters had cleared the scene and two shops, a martial arts center and a locksmith, were boarded up. The martial arts studio is home to Black Sun Boxing, Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship, and Vina Arnis. Solomon Blake said he owns Black Sun Boxing. When he got to his shop on Thursday morning, he said he found holes in the ceiling, wet mats and a lot of damage to the building. “Definitely not happy, not what you want to wake up with,” said Blake. “The actual security of the building has been so destroyed that we can no longer run and operate for a while.” Several classes had to be canceled due to the fire. Now getting back into business is becoming the new battle for the gym owners and, for one thing, they are determined to win. “We’ve only survived this far, and my life is fortunate, so if that holds up,” We’re going to pull this off, “said Blake. Black Sun Boxing set up this GoFundMe page to aid in the recovery effort Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship has set up this GoFundMe page for rebuilding donations. Nobody was in the building when the fire was reported and no firefighters were injured. Investigators are trying to find out how the fire started.
