PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A man was hit and killed overnight by a person believed to be drinking and driving in Phoenix, police said Thursday morning. Phoenix police said the accident was reported just after midnight near 22nd Avenue and Indian School Road. Officials said the man was crossing Indian School, where an SUV hit him heading east. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. According to the investigators, the victim was not on a zebra crossing. They also indicated that there is a HAWK, or high intensity activated zebra crossing signal, to the west of where the man was hit. The woman who drove the SUV stayed at the scene of the accident. The officers said they found signs of impairment and arrested this person. They were cited and then released, Phoenix police said. The investigation continues.
