(Photo by ADOT) PHOENIX – A section of Interstate 10 near downtown Phoenix and part of Loop 101 in the North Valley are slated to close this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday. In north Phoenix, the westward Loop 101 Pima Freeway between State Route 51 and Seventh Street will be closed from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday as diamond cutting of the pavement for the expansion project continues. The northbound SR 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 and the western Loop 101 driveway on Cave Creek Road will both be closed. Near downtown Phoenix, I-10 will be closed to the east between the I-17 stack interchange east of 35th Avenue and Seventh Street from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 9:00 a.m. Saturday due to tunnel lighting work. The L-101 (Pima) motorway will be closed this weekend due to expansion work. Other closures include Central Avenue in both directions on I-17 south of downtown Phoenix from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday for the dismantling of the old freeway bridge in a northerly direction and the access to Westbound State Route 24 at the Ellsworth Road in East Mesa from 9am Friday to 5pm Monday for a dirt truck. Meanwhile, Loop 101 will be narrowed south in areas between Thunderbird Road and I-10 in the West Valley from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday for crack sealing as part of road maintenance.
