SCOTTSDALE (3TV / CBS 5) – A heavy monsoon storm hit parts of the Valley hard Thursday night, bringing heavy rain and lots of lightning to Phoenix and Scottsdale. Many people were given emergency weather warnings on their phones warning of the dangers. “This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation,” the warning read. We saw evidence of this danger when ADOT cameras recorded video of cars that were literally washed away on the flooded I-17 on Greenway Road. A lightning flood warning was issued for Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley until 2 a.m. A rain gauge measured 1/2 “rain” in just ten minutes. They also advised drivers to exercise extreme caution when traveling. Some delays have been reported as rain pelted Sky Harbor Airport. We spoke to passenger Conor O’Lowney, who was stuck on a plane at the gate, waiting to get off. He had just flown in from Atlanta but said the plane had been on the tarmac for about an hour. Thousands of people were without power during the storms, including nearly 2,000 customers in northern Phoenix. You can check for outages on the SRP and APS outage maps. +13 Phoenix subway hit by lightning strikes overnight Viewers shared dozens of pictures and videos of rain and lightning via email and on our Arizona Weather Department Facebook page.[CLICK HERE FOR LATEST FORECAST]We have received reports of damage across town, including trees in South Scottsdale.
