A rap concert in front of the Celebrity Theater ended in chaos when noises similar to gunshots caused the crowd to flee. PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Several fans were injured while running away from the Lil Durk concert, which erupted in chaos outside the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix on Saturday night. People apparently panicked when they thought they heard gunshots. But the venue believes that when the rapper dropped his microphone, some people thought it sounded like gunfire and ran away. “When that sound comes through the PA system, it’s pretty harrowing. So the loud noise made people panic and people scooped pretty quickly, ”said Andrew Birgensmith, general manager of the Celebrity Theater. “I didn’t hear any gunshots.” I just reacted, “said Claresa Allison, a Lil Durk fan from Iowa. “It was like a wave so everyone left and I just left. On Sunday afternoon, Smurkchella posted a statement in an Instagram post that said, “There were no shootings in Smurkchella! Yes, some things went unplanned! It’s a concert, the first concert on the heels [sic] a pandemic! We have been pushing for weeks to safely let in as many people as possible to experience this festival! Was that a mistake? In retrospect maybe, but we wanted to do that for everyone who wanted to be part of Smurkchella, the people who are important to the fans. “They also say they tried for weeks to get more security in preparation for the concert. Celebrity Theater posted a statement on Instagram saying they were not involved in the logistical coordination of the event and were not the organizer of the event. Birgensmith told Arizona’s family that there was a safety presence at the concert, but it was clearly insufficient. ” We had staff on site. We had people doing their best to attend to everyone’s needs. But the size of the crowd was unfortunately impressive.
