Family members of a woman, a child killed in the bedroom closet by an estranged husband, speak from Louis Mouton III accused of shooting and killing 32-year-old Lanae Mouton and her 11-month-old child Ava. PHOENIX – Police say a woman and her young child are dead after they were both shot in a domestic violence incident Monday night in west Phoenix, the department said. According to Phoenix Police, the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on October 4 near 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Investigators say 34-year-old Louis Mouton III went to a house to speak to 32-year-old Lanae Mouton about their estranged relationship. After the interview, Lanae went back to her house with her 11-month-old child Ava. “The man kicked the door and fired several shots. The woman and her 11-month-old child were both hit,” Sgt. Both victims were taken to hospitals where they were pronounced dead. “The loss of a child … a lot of the first responders you see out here are fathers and mothers themselves,” said Sgt. He is facing a burglary and first degree murder charge, and a judge has set his bail at $ 2 million. Neighbors are incredulous and describe the Mouton family as nice. “It’s sad. The wife brought us milk and cereal and stuff like that. I talked to her husband,” said a neighbor. “It’s kind of scary. It’s kind of dangerous too. I have a son, he is 17 years old.
