Bachelorette Weekend Almost Ruined Phoenix Flights After Delayed By Monsoon Storm When Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix suffered a ground freeze due to a storm late Friday night, one Bachelorette feared she would miss her entire weekend with friends after being diverted to Las Vegas . PHOENIX – A bride and her friends are spending the weekend in Old Town Scottsdale, but for a while they didn’t think this was going to happen due to a strong storm in the desert. Friday’s monsoons affected the travel plans of many flying to Phoenix, and Ariel Adams recalls that she was diverted to Las Vegas and almost missed her own bachelorette party. Torrential rain lashed much of the valley overnight, leaving the streets and courtyards flooded. Adams saw the monsoons from the sky as she flew in from Washington DC for her bachelorette party, a problem she hadn’t anticipated when visiting the desert. Because of this storm, their plane had to orbit Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for over an hour and eventually the flight was diverted to Las Vegas. Sky Harbor experienced a ground stop Friday night from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., says Julie Rodriguez of the city of Phoenix. “Some flights have been diverted to Tucson, Albuquerque, Las Vegas and LAX. The FAA tower has declared a ground stop for arrivals and departures due to weather conditions,” she added. Local residents saw violent thunderstorms, high winds and rain, and some houses saw fallen trees as a result of the storm. Officials say 60,000 lightning bolts were recorded in central Arizona between 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Adams was afraid for a while that she would not be able to celebrate with her friends in time. “Everyone was here except me and they were like hashtag days to me and they said where is the bride? So I felt so bad, “said Adams. Almost 12 hours after it was originally due to land, Adams landed in Phoenix. “Very relieved, very tired, but I also had the energy to see everyone, greet them and when I saw my friends I got a little more excited,” she said.
