PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A man was arrested after allegedly running over and killing a woman in Phoenix early Sunday morning. Phoenix police say it happened around 2:41 a.m. near 20th Street and Camelback Road. When officers arrived on site, they found a woman, later identified as 47-year-old Barbara Ann Brown, who had been run over. Brown was rushed to the hospital where she later died of her injuries. Ann Justus says the suspect, 23-year-old Isaac Wences Najera, turned north from Highland Avenue onto 20th Street, where he crossed the center line for three lanes south crossed over, pulled over a curb, and hit the sidewalk where he allegedly ran over Brown, who was asleep. The truck drove on, hit a pole, and drove away. According to court documents, Phoenix officials found Najera’s white Chevrolet Silverado in a house near 18th Street and Bethany Home Road with Najera lying in the passenger seat with the driver’s door open. Najera briefly fought with officials and was arrested. According to police, officers saw blood under the truck and the front left corner bumper was damaged. Najera reportedly admitted driving the truck and said he drank and smoked marijuana earlier that night. Najera is charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident.
