PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Police identified a woman late on Sunday evening who was shot dead in an apartment complex in Phoenix. Ann Jupiter says they were called shortly after 11 p.m. about a shooting in the 23rd and Northern Avenues area. Phoenix Fire pronounced them dead on the spot. Police say officers arrested Phan’s friend, 58-year-old William Wickware, in connection with the shooting. A witness told police that they heard a loud bang and saw Wickware leave the apartment. When the police arrived, he was nowhere to be seen. On Monday, just after 5:00 a.m., police officers found him in a warehouse. According to court records, he was seen carrying and picking up items from the unit. About six hours later he was found near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The officers stopped and arrested Wickware. Wickware initially denied he was involved, but later told detectives that he carried a pistol in his pocket that he had planned to end his life with. When he got to the apartment, he got into an argument with Phan which resulted in him pulling out his gun. He told the police, while taking it out and pointing it at Phan, that it accidentally went off twice and hit Phan. Wickware then said he was gone. Wickware then informed police that he had put the gun in a pair of sneakers in the unit the next day in the storage unit. Wickware was charged with first degree murder.
