New robot patrols Park Central in Phoenix The robot called “Parker” roams around day and night, offering more “eyes” on the property, while it becomes something of an attraction itself. Stephanie Olmo from FOX 10 reports. It might look like something out of a science fiction movie, but it isn’t. Rather, it’s the new security robot in Park Central in Phoenix. The robot called “Parker” roams around day and night and offers more “eyes” on the property. “Parker works around the clock and he’s here at Park Central to help with security, to create a sense of security and security for all of our students, staff in our offices, and our future residents,” said Sharon Harper , Chairman and CEO of Plaza Companies. Unlike his more famous friend RoboCop, Parker is closely monitored. The autonomous outdoor security robot Knightscope K5 completed a two-month training course and has been traveling alone for a little over a month to secure the area. “He’s in and out of Park Central. We go all the way from Central Avenue to 3rd [Avenue], almost to Osborn and almost to Thomas. It’s a big development. Parker is everywhere and he doesn’t miss a beat, “said Harper. Harper says Parker is 5’2” tall and weighs nearly 400 pounds. It roams through the area at a top speed of five kilometers per hour and is full of innovative technology. “It’s connected to a home base. He can take photos of license plates. If he sees something inappropriate, he can log into it immediately and our local people can step in and help,” said Harper. Harper adds that as part of the team, Parker brings new levels of security and connectivity to residents and tenants in the community. “It really fits in with what I believe is the future in terms of business, office, restaurants, hotels and homes,” said Harper. “Everything Park Central will be when it’s done.” While Parker serves a serious purpose, he was a fun addition to the area as people came over to take photos of him or take selfies with him.
