PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – A woman was found dead Saturday after an apartment in West Phoenix went up in flames. The fire broke out in a complex near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road. Local residents reported that flames broke out from the apartment’s windows. When the crews arrived, they were faced with flames that shot 3 feet out of a window on the second floor. The heavy fire and heat “brought the firefighters to their knees,” said Captain Scott Douglas of the Phoenix Fire Department. When they finally got into the apartment, they found a deceased woman in it. Phoenix Police later identified the woman as 35-year-old India Johnson. Police say the coroner will determine the cause of death. No firefighters were injured in this incident. The Phoenix Police will be investigating the deaths.
