PHOENIX, AZ – It’s been seven years since the night Daniel Aldana’s life was forever changed. © Provided by Patch Aldana, who was born and raised in the West Valley town of Avondale, was on a routine motorcycle tour in 2013 when the then 20-year-old lost control of his bike and fell. He woke up several hours later in a nearby hospital, dazed and confused about why his family members were crying when he lay motionless in his raised bed. He soon discovered that his left calf had been torn off in the accident and that putting the ligaments back on would be problematic at best. At this point, Aldana made a decision that shocked his friends and family. “They said, ‘Daniel, we need to talk about something really life-changing,'” Aldana told Patch. “They told me it was about my leg and I said, ‘Okay, cool. Then we’ll cut it off.’ “Everyone was shocked. They say, ‘Why? Why would you do that?’ And I told them because my option to keep it is far worse than having a leg. ” Load Error Aldana’s decision likely saved his life as he was able to leave the hospital about a month after that fateful decision, after completing 28 operations on his left leg. However, he was not out of the woods yet, as Aldana had to relearn basic body functions such as walking and standing. Aldana still calls the decision to remove his leg a godsend as it allowed him to get on with his life. ”The healing process was probably the worst part of it. It took a long time and was a nightmare, “Aldana said.” But for the most part it was a life changing experience and probably the best decision I have ever made in my life. “And Aldana made another decision that turned out to be a blessing At the time, disaffected with his job, Aldana rushed to become a full auto technician. Aldana enrolled in a full-time technician job at Phoenix’s Lifted Trucks before landing for classes at Phoenix’s Universal Technical Institute campus. A job that Aldana loves, even if he currently has to rely on crutches or a wheelchair for his daily chores. Thanks to Aldana’s tireless work ethic and dedication to the service: “Daniel’s positive attitude, good heart, work ethic and passion for life have us inspired to give back to him because he always gives so much for others, ”said Mike Halland, who is the market ng manager of Lifted Trucks, in an email to Patch. “We hope that GoFundMe will help fund the entirety of a life-changing prosthetic leg that would allow Daniel to return to the activities he loved before the accident.” For Aldana, who recently featured in a Lifted Trucks movie about his Everyday life played along is the mutual feeling. Aldana thanked Halland and his company and said the company was a blessing. Part of that blessing comes from the help Aldana received in raising money for a new prosthetic leg that will make his daily chores a lot easier. Aldana is currently trying to raise $ 10,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to purchase such a prosthesis. Thanks also to the video from Lifted Trucks, Aldana is roughly halfway to his destination on Thursday morning. Aldana said he was looking forward to raising enough money to get the prosthesis, in part so that he could return to the activities he loved most before his accident seven years ago, such as snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking. “People actually want to help me and that means a lot to me [Lifted Trucks] helps out with the fundraiser to get me a new prosthesis, ”said Aldana. “Then I can go back to the lifestyle I had before my accident … I would try everything at least once or twice. “And I just want to thank everyone who has donated so much. It will be really cool to bring me back to where I used to be.” Right now, for the first time in a while, Aldana is confident and optimistic about the future, largely thanks to the support he’s received from the entire community. Aldana is ready for life’s greatest moments, including the birth of his first child later this year. Most of all, he hopes that people will learn the positives from his story, such as how hard work can overcome the adversities of life, and that we all have a support system around us to get us through difficult times. “You run out of energy every day to be positive because it’s going to be so tough,” said Aldana. “And you can come down on yourself. And then one day you just find out that people are giving for you and they’ll take care of you.
