According to police, the accident at the intersection of Central Avenue and Camelback Road was caused by a driver who ran over a red light. Firefighters freed one person from their car and four more were rushed to the hospital, Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller said. Three of them are in critical condition and a fourth, 36-year-old Jesus Padilla, died in the hospital. “The adult driver of the brown Toyota Camry, the vehicle that passed the red light, showed signs of impairment,” police said in a statement on Aug. 23. The driver was identified as the wife of Jesus Padilla.
