The WNBA honored their 25 best players after the first quarter. It was a quick ceremony as Diana Taurasi, Britney Griner, and Candace Parker all compete in Game 1. They joined the other legends for a quick photo at the half-court where they were presented with letterman jackets. The league was really trying to build up the top 25 players and “GOAT vote” as a big deal, but I have to say that the rollout didn’t impress me. For such honors, the league should have made more advance notice of the announcements. The league “honored” some of the top 25 class members in a hasty ceremony between the first and second quarters of Game 1 and resigned Taurasi. on when the GOAT almost as the game started. (She received a trophy and romper that said “Future GOAT” for her newborn.) The W should have posted press releases about the ceremony (while they didn’t put it between two-quarters in Game 1, either) and saw the opportunity to do the GOAT to make announcement a really big deal. Neither didn’t seem like a big deal because of the presentation. There’s a lot of room in this league to better market not just the league itself, but the players, both current and past ones.
