Phoenix’s Okilly Dokilly, the world’s first (and only) metal band with a Ned Flanders theme, is doing at the end of the recently announced Tourdilly Do ’22 tour, which also features steak sauce Mustache and does not include a gig in their hometown, an indefinite break. The bandmates take a break from matching sweaters to focus on family and other projects. In a press release, lead singer Head Ned initially stated that the goal was to do maybe two shows. “We imagined we were the third or fourth band on a seven-band metal show,” he says. “We stepped in our sweaters and confused the 12 or 13 people present and then told a great story.” Instead, they went viral in August 2015 and, after an interview in Rip It Up, received articles in Entertainment Weekly and The Independent, an Australian publication, got the ball rolling. Since then they have released two albums and toured several times. In 2019 they received the highest award one can imagine for a Flanders themed band. I’m just a girl who can’t say D’oh. ”As Head Ned noted in her press release,“ Okilly Dokily did a lot more than I ever expected. I am really grateful to everyone who was there. And especially to everyone who came to our shows to say how crazy it is. “They’ve been touring pretty relentlessly since 2016,” continued Ned. “And last year I became a father. So it’s time for a break. It’s time for me to shave off Ned’s mustache and grow his father’s mustache.” Know that we won’t be touring or new music for the next few years will do, “explained Head Ned. “I’m not sure if or when we’ll be back, but right now it’s ‘toodilly do’.” Story ContinuesReach the reporter at ed.masley@arizonarepublic.com or 602-444-4495.
