The Wellington Phoenix will play their first home games of the A-League men and women this summer at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. But they hope to be able to play games in New Zealand as early as January 29th – if the limit restrictions of Covid-19 allow it. The complete schedule for the A-League Men was announced on Friday, the schedule for the A-League Women, in which the Phoenix are involved for the first time, is to follow in the coming days. The Phoenix men will play four home games between November 28 and January 9 at WIN Stadium, their home venue for most of last season, but will play seven of their first eleven games away from home. With their schedule crammed with away games, the Phoenix men will end the season with nine of their last 15 home games, maximizing their chances of playing in Wellington and Auckland, as they did in May at the end of last season and possibly elsewhere. The Phoenix Women will begin their inaugural campaign against the Western Sydney Wanderers on December 3rd as part of a double header with the men at WIN Stadium who will face the same opponents later that evening. In their first season they will play home games in Wollongong, although trans-Tasman travel is possible in order to keep travel costs for other clubs as low as possible. Both Phoenix teams will leave Wellington for Sydney on Monday afternoon and have arranged a charter flight with the New Zealand Breakers basketball team.
