PHOENIX – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Sept. October 2021–
The University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies announces the publication of a white paper written by Kimberly Underwood, Ph.D., MBA, University Research Professor at the University’s Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Research, and by Mark Slaven, Ph.D. The whitepaper, titled Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Both a Social and Business Imperative, created in consultation with the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, examines how companies can help achieve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to increase and promote.
The disproportionate impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on underrepresented groups and the protests following the killings of people like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor have shed light on the ingrained inequalities that continue to plague and constrain American society. These events have also given the DEI a new focus and energy, giving companies a unique opportunity to address these issues and make progress.
“The University of Phoenix is proud to partner with the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to present this white paper and to be a catalyst for key conversations necessary to support effective and sustainable change within our DEI efforts,” said Peter Cohen, President of the University of Phoenix. “By the voices of executives across the state of Arizona, this paper offers suggestions, strategies, and resources to help companies advance their DEI efforts.”
The whitepaper is designed to guide companies through effective DEI action and examines how leading organizations have recognized that diversity needs the benefits of inclusive practices in order to foster an authentic sense of belonging.
“I am Dr. Kimberly Underwood and Dr. Grateful to Mike Slaven for their thorough work in taking these words – diversity and inclusion – and giving them actionable meaning in the context of corporate culture, ”said Mónica Villalobos, President and CEO of the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are measures that must be incorporated into the DNA of all successful organizations.”
The results of the white paper were presented in August 2021 by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the University of Phoenix with APS and the Minority Business Development Agency of the US Department of Commerce.
