PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE) – The University of Phoenix and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Foundation announce Jennifer Schantz as the 2021 Ansson Scholarship Winner. Schantz received $ 5,000 to complete her Masters of Health Administration from the University of Phoenix.
As a young mother of two small children, Schantz became the sole carer for her seriously ill husband in a situation that plunged her young family into chaos and faced an uncertain future. During this difficult time, she learned firsthand the difficulties, barriers, and challenges of the health system and its impact on the health and well-being of patients and their loved ones. She discovered her passion for healthcare after her experience as a housewife and began her educational journey when her children were in middle school. She enrolled for an associate degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Phoenix in 2012, has since completed her Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and is currently working on her Master of Health Administration.
As she continues her lifelong learning, Schantz applies everything she has learned and experienced and focuses her attention on creating a “culture of care” in her organization and community. She places great emphasis on empathy and compassion from everyone involved to help the patient understand the treatment they are receiving. “With all the tools at my disposal and with the support of my academic advisor and my faculty at the University of Phoenix, I plan to achieve my educational and career goals and realize my vision of a better health system in a culture of care, a reality”, says Schantz.
Schantz has been working in various positions in the healthcare system for 17 years, including as assistant coordinator for internal medicine and cardiology fellowship, and is currently working as an office supervisor in family medicine (FM). In her current role she works with FM clinicians who teach medical students in their FM internship.

Schantz is a deserved recipient of the scholarship and the spirit in which it was founded.”
The scholarship program supports health professionals pursuing a health care degree and was named after Dr. Richard Ansson, Jr., a longtime professor of the University of Phoenix’s College of Health Professions who passed away in May 2020. The Ansson Scholarship is administered by the NSLS Chapter of the University of Phoenix.
