PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – The Valley took a double blow from the monsoon on Wednesday. The power of Mother Nature brought wind, light hail and heavy rain to parts of the Phoenix West Valley area around 1 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning was in place for Glendale, Surprise and Peoria until 5:30 p.m. The heavy rain then continued east where the same warning was issued for Gilbert, Tempe and Guadalupe. Greenway Road is flooded again and closed both directions from 29th Avenue to Interstate 17. It’s a problem area every time it rains heavily. In the Seventh Avenue and Coral Gables area of Moon Valley, the street turned into a rushing river because of a flooded laundry nearby. Officials had to block Seventh Avenue. People in the area say they haven’t seen the water this high in years. A road in northern Phoenix is closed because a flooded car wash turned it into a rushing river. The storms left severe damage. Near Seventh Avenue and Hatcher Road, an apartment complex roof landed on a car in the parking lot. Nobody was injured, but those who live there have to clean up. 2:48 monsoon storms leave severe damage in Phoenix Wind gusts weren’t as strong as they were on Monday as Mesa saw winds gusts up to 41 mph and Sky Harbor saw gusts of 60 mph. Small hail struck parts of Scottsdale. Little hail fell in Scottsdale. (Source: Bob Wolski) Most of the rain had left the valley by 3:30 p.m., but the streets were still flooded. New River saw 2.6 inches of rain and Scottsdale saw 1.3 inches. Cave Creek and North Phoenix were both hit by more than an inch of rain. With the storms on Wednesday 2021, it is the wettest monsoon since 2014 with more than 3 inches of rain this summer.
