PHOENIX, Oct 18, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – The Phoenix Art Museum’s Men’s Arts Council is proud to present The Lost Negatives of Rock & Roll Legends, a curated exhibition of rare photos by iconic artists from the 1960s, including Janis Joplin, Rolling Stones, The Band, Kris Kristofferson, James Cotton, Butterfield blues band, Todd Rundgren and more.
In the 1960s and 70s, director and music producer Michael Friedmann developed close personal relationships with the artists while at work and while traveling. Living in new York and Woodstock he was also an avid photographer and his favorite subjects were his artist friends and their performances.
Friedman took more than 2,000 photos before misplacing the negatives nearly 50 years ago. His wife is considered lost and almost forgotten Women’s life discovered her in a box of old music business papers in her attic. Together they restored the negatives. In addition to the upcoming fundraising campaign, the two are working on a book that will be published soon.
“It is noteworthy that Michael Friedmann documented this important focal point in music history and captured its energy and personality, “said Greg Harris, President and CEO of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
After a successful year-long exhibition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a newly curated and expanded collection of 80 restored images, many of which are new and never seen before, will be on display to the public for free and for the benefit of the Phoenix Art Museum.
“I’m very excited about this exhibition and the opportunity to share the photos and the stories behind it Phoenix“Said Friedman. “My journey in the music business actually started in Arizonaso it’s a bit like coming home. I am also delighted to be able to make a contribution that will benefit the Phoenix Art Museum. “
The photos have been described as a rock and roll time capsule from the 1960s. Friedman’s photos offer a fresh new look on stage and behind the scenes from some of the most important artists of the time.
“Seeing these past explosions in person is truly breathtaking, extremely rare and very special,” said the chairman of the event for the Men’s Arts Council Steven Stralser. “We are so grateful to Mr. Friedman for working with us to create these unique images with the Phoenix Community. “
The exhibition and sale will take place at the FOUND: RE Hotel at 1100 N. Central Avenue. Phoenix, AZ 85004, from Friday 19th November at 6:00 p.m. with a reception with preview ticket ($ 125 per person), gallery talk and talk with the artist; thereafter it is free and open to the public on Saturday 20th November from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Follow Lost Negatives of Rock & Roll on Facebook and Instagram.
