Suspect identified after hit-and-run leaves Gilbert sergeant hospitalized | Phoenix Traffic

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – A Gilbert police sergeant is recovering in hospital from a hit and run accident while riding his motorcycle north of Scottsdale early Sunday morning. According to the Gilbert Police Department, Sgt. Tom Edgerton was riding his personal motorcycle, a 2018 Harley Davidson, near the Talking Stick exit of Loop 101 when a Toyota Tacoma pulled him past just before 12:30 p.m. old Colton Sattler from Oceanside, California, didn’t stop. (Source: ADOT) Sattler drove south on Loop 101 and left the highway at the McDonald Drive exit. A Gilbert police spokesman said Scottsdale officers later found Sattler’s car. According to court records, the car was found near a 7-Eleven store in the area. The clerk identified Sattler with the police. Scottsdale Police found him in a parking lot on the northeast corner of McDonald Road and North Granite Reef Road. DPS spoke to Sattler in the parking lot, and he told the soldiers that he was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma south on Loop 101 and that he came across an unknown object while changing lanes. Sattler then told soldiers that he originally stopped his car near the McDonald Road exit, but decided to get off the freeway to eventually get to the 7-Eleven. Sattler said he went to the store to get a bandage for a cut knee and was contacted by police when leaving the store. Sattler admitted to drinking two glasses of wine, two Red Bulls and vodkas around 11:15 p.m. According to court records, Sattler had an alcohol-like odor and watery eyes. He agreed to a sobriety test. He also had a breath test with a preliminary result of 0.79. The legal definition of impairment is 0.08. 1:13 Gilbert Sergeant hospitalized after being hit by a driver, Edgerton sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Honor Health Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in critical but stable condition. The investigation continues. Sattler was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with grievous bodily harm and leaving an accident with grave injuries.
