PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – One person was killed and seven others injured in a shooting at a downtown Phoenix hotel early Sunday morning. The victim who died was identified as 21-year-old Jaziah Shakor Causey. According to Phoenix Police, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the downtown Hyatt Regency hotel near Third and Van Buren Streets around 12:30 p.m. and broke out among a group of people between the ages of 18 and 22. They were attending a birthday party at the hotel. 1:44 One dead, 7 injured at the Phoenix Hotel after a shooting “Out of nowhere they told me to turn the music off,” said AJ Warren, who was hosting the event. “And I see helicopters flying around … and I look outside. I stop the music. And there are cops everywhere. ”“ I got a lot on my mind, ”Warren continued. “What are you going to do? Are you going to storm into the room? It was a lot.” Rescue workers found one man dead in the hotel and took 6 other men and a woman to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Source: 3TV / CBS 5 Hotel guests had to cope with a lot. “Around 1pm the hotel manager called us and told us to stay in the room … and not to leave,” said hotel guests Bruce Love. “So we knew something was going on … but we didn’t have any A video from the crime scene showed officers escorting two young men who appeared to be handcuffed. It is not clear how or whether these men could have been involved in the shooting. Neither the police from Phoenix nor the Hyatt said where the shooting took place in the hotel. But one survivor who asked us to only use her nickname “Nonnie” says the shooting happened in a crowded elevator. Nonnie went to the hotel with her cousins, to attend a birthday party. She says they got on the elevator with a group of people they didn’t know. “I felt like I wish I didn’t get on with all of these people, but they had one Have a key, you know you come up there, “says Nonnie. Seconds later, Nonnie says, chaos erupted when one man started arguing with another, drew a gun, and opened fire. When the elevator door opened, Nonnie says she crawled out looking for cover. The terrible images of that night still haunt her. 2:19 Witnesses comment after the fatal Phoenix shooting “I saw my cousin bleed to death,” says Nonnie. “I’ve seen other people being shot, shot in the legs, just sitting there waiting for help.” Nonnie says two of her cousins were shot. One is now recovering at home, while the other, a 17-year-old girl, is still in the hospital but is otherwise in a good mood. After the injured were rushed to the hospital and the area secured, officials and hotel staff decided not to evacuate any of the rooms or the building. We spoke to the hotel manager on Sunday and he told us the hotel is open and safe for all guests. No arrests were made. Phoenix Police say they continue to interview witnesses about the incident.
