PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns playoff run is having a huge impact on the community’s economy, according to team and city officials. Suns CEO Jason Rowley and Christine Mackay, Economic Development Director for the City of Phoenix, recently spoke to the Phoenix Business Journal about the team’s success off the field. “It was just great to see the vibrancy in downtown Phoenix, all the fans are coming out,” said Rowley. Typically, according to Mackay, the team expected a $ 182 million economic impact to grow thanks to the team’s success. Mackay told business leaders that restaurants and bars are seeing dramatic increases in sales. “Double, triple … some of them report that their business is ten times bigger than it would normally be at a good time. So we’ll know very soon what this economic impact will be, but I can tell you the numbers will be astronomical, ”she said. The Suns also recently announced a partnership with Footprint ortsbook with Fan Duel for the next season at the arena. Rowley told ABC15 that sports betting will make some of their games more exciting. “I think it’s a great opportunity for additional fan engagement,” he said. It’s a different path, a different point of view, something that some people who might not otherwise be a fan of a particular sport are now interested in a different way, ”added Rowley. The Suns play the Bucks in Milwaukee on Tuesday night. Start it on ABC15 from 5:30 p.m.
