PHOENIX – Southbound State Route 51 was temporarily closed on Tuesday afternoon after being wrecked on McDowell Road in Phoenix, authorities said. The closure was announced around 2 p.m. The lanes began to open again about 30 minutes later, but traffic had been jammed behind Camelback Road by then. The Arizona Department of Transportation suggested using alternative routes such as Interstate 17 whenever possible.
