Search for Executive Director of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation begins
Since its inception in 2018, the Sherman Phoenix has focused on providing an inclusive community space, promoting entrepreneurship, and helping create jobs for community members to gain valuable work experience. The executive director of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation is tasked with continuing this focus and supporting the nonprofit’s mission.
“We want to find a passionate leader who will build on the legacy of the Sherman Phoenix,” said Sabir. “Our ideal Executive Director of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation will take the lead, manage day-to-day operations, and build social relationships that lead to positive outcomes as we seek economic equity and empowerment, strategic investment and training, business success, and emotional wellbeing for people of color Support executives. “
The national search for the Executive Director of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation is led by Goodwill TalentBridge in partnership with the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. ABOUT THE SHERMAN PHOENIX FOUNDATION
The Sherman Phoenix Foundation focuses on much-needed leadership, training, and action by colored leaders on economic justice and self-determination. The foundation will work with leaders who are committed to building an inclusive and equitable economy for communities of color. It will support strategies that focus on:
- Economic Justice and Empowerment;
- Entrepreneurship and Small Business Success;
- Strategic business investment and training; and
- Emotional wellbeing for color guides.
In addition, the nonprofit will direct all programs at Sherman Phoenix that add cultural and economic vibrancy to the center, including technical assistance for the 25+ small business tenants, wellness programs, educational opportunities, and arts and cultural events.

The Sherman Phoenix was born after the police shot an unarmed black man in the Sherman Park neighborhood of Milwaukee in 2016. Our community has come together to turn a fire-damaged bank building into a thriving hub for 25+ black businesses.
