Police ID man accused of shooting at officer on Interstate 17 in Phoenix | Phoenix Traffic

PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Police have identified the man who allegedly shot a motorcycle officer on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix. Colin Downs, 29 (Source: Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office) Colin Downs, 29, was taken into custody Friday morning following an accident. According to Phoenix police, Downs was driving south on Interstate 17 near Yorkshire Drive around 9 a.m. when he stopped next to the motorcycle officer and shot him through the rear window of his car. As Downs continued on I-17 at over 125 mph, he was seen throwing a gun out the window. Shortly after gunfire was fired, Downs collided with two other vehicles on Interstate 17 and Greenway Road and was taken into custody. Injured in the crash, Downs was rushed to hospital and then arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm when doctors released him.
