One woman told investigators that she donated her son to the company without knowing that his body would be dismantled and sold.
PHOENIX – The 2014 FBI raid on a body donation company in Phoenix – which discovered a cooler with penises, a bucket of heads, and a torso sewn “Frankenstein-style” to a mismatched head – is the subject of one Episode in a new true crime thriller podcast called Strangeville.
Stephen Gore, then 48 years old and owner of the Arizona company that arranged the donation of bodies for medicine and research, pleaded guilty in 2015 for his role in mishandling the donations.
The company collected bodies from people who died on the pretext that the bodies were being used for disease research. Instead, the company was accused of carelessly dismembering and storing corpses and selling many body parts for profit to companies around the world.
Gore acknowledged that his company provided vendors with human tissue that was contaminated and used against the donors’ wishes.

One woman told investigators that she donated her son to the company without knowing that his body would be dismantled and sold. Agents found his head, legs and left shoulder when ransacking a facility in Detroit.
The FBI said the company also sold disease-contaminated body parts. Medical schools and biomedical companies often buy body parts for research.

In 2019, 10 of the 21 plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit against Gore and his former company were awarded $ 58 million. Plaintiffs accused Gore of lying to her about how their loved ones’ remains would be used after the bodies were donated.
The former company was sentenced to $ 50 million in punitive damages and $ 8 million in damages.

Gwen Aloai, who received $ 5.5 million, said her husband’s donated body was dismembered and his body parts discovered in various states.
“My heart is broken. You get to know these people throughout the process. People I have never known before, the other plaintiffs and there are some nice, sweet, lovable people who have been totally taken advantage of, ”Aloai said.
