Phoenix Reisen has christened the Antonia, the newest ship in its river fleet, before it sails the German company’s first cruise in the 2021 river season. Since Phoenix Reisen is based in Bonn, the christening took place there after the guests had embarked in Cologne the day before. The godmother was Petra Fendel-Sridharan, wife of the former Mayor of Bonn Ashok-Alexander Sridharan. Pastor Raimund Blanke gave the ship, the crew and all guests his blessing. The Antonia, a sister ship of the Asara, offers space for 190 guests in spacious public rooms and tastefully modern cabins, most of which have a French balcony, announced the shipping company. The ship has emission-reduced machines, shore power connection, a sewage treatment plant and various technical facilities to reduce energy consumption. Based on a reduced capacity, 150 guests will travel on the first cruise. Phoenix Reisen, which is chartering the new ship from Rijfers Shipping, said that both the company and the owners and operators are very aware of their responsibility towards passengers and crew. A sophisticated hygiene and safety concept, which was successfully implemented on board the Phoenix Reisen river boats last autumn, will continue to be implemented on board. Benjamin Krumpen, Managing Director of Phoenix Reisen, comments: “The best weather, loyal Phoenix guests, a fantastic crew, captain Menno Vaasen and a committed godmother – we couldn’t imagine a better start to the travel season – and of course our guests.”
