PHOENIX, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – A few days ago, customers noticed a sign at the entrance to Oven + Vine. This popular Midtown Phoenix restaurant and wine bar is located on Central Avenue and Thomas Road. The sign reads, “Indoor seating is available for vaccinated people.” And to “Please provide proof of vaccination when ordering.” The restaurant owners said the sign was not politically motivated and several of their family members were immunocompromised. Owners said the sign was more intended to alleviate concerns from customers who are worried about eating out. Monica Gonzales now lives in the area, said although she’s not vaccinated she doesn’t mind the guideline. “It’s their business. They have the right to do what they want. At the same time, there are other points of contact. It’s not my job to tell them how to ultimately run their business,” said Gonzales. How feasible is it for companies to request proof of vaccination? Experts Split “I wish more restaurants would do this. I just came back from Seattle on vacation and there are a lot of these types of establishments that require vaccinations,” said customer Chris Kinzig. This comes because of the delta variant of COVID-19 cases in Arizona, which have nearly doubled since early July. “If it follows the pattern it did before, mainly Europe first, then it’s only a matter of time before the surge occurs,” said emergency doctor Murtaza Akhter of the University of Arizona College of Medicine. A Phoenix restaurant wants to dine indoors only for vaccinated people.
