A Phoenix area travel agent says many people bucket-list luxury travel after missing a year of vacation. PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – With vaccines introduced and restrictions lifted, experts say people are eager to travel. While some go on vacation to see their families, others coined the term “vengeance journeys”. “We definitely see a backlog in travel, especially to more exotic locations,” said Carrie Simmons, travel consultant and founder of Travel with Kids TELEVISION. Simmons said people would look for destinations where there are no restrictions. She said that places like South Africa and Peru are currently popular places and more people are willing to make money. “A lot of people had budgeted for travel last year and didn’t take advantage of it, so they’re willing to spend a little more on travel this year,” said Simmons. Such is the case with Shelly-Ann Chang, who is traveling to Maui, Hawaii with her family next month. She said she felt safer traveling after the vaccination. “Just go out there and be back in the world and think for a moment that things are getting a little bit back to normal,” said Chang. Experts said revenge trips could help the airline and tourism industry recover from a financially devastating year. Simmons said she anticipates a huge surge in travel as more people are vaccinated and vaccination record technology advances. Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Rundfunkgesellschaft).
