Jeff Barton was unanimously elected as City Manager on September 8th.
PHOENIX – Phoenix City Council unanimously voted in response to the City of Phoenix on Wednesday to promote Assistant City Manager Jeff Barton as the next city manager.
Barton will lead the nation’s largest city management group after the departure of City Manager Ed Zuercher on October 8th, in response to the city.
“It’s great to have an insider who not only has the skills but also the zeal for the essential work we have done as the fifth largest and fastest growing city in the country,” said Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix. Earlier this month when the city expressed its intention to nominate Barton.

Born in Pennsylvania, Barton holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Morehouse College and a degree in public administration from Shippensburg University in response to the city.
Barton moved to Arizona in 1999 and began working as a chartered accountant, the place where he needed to ensure the operational effectiveness of city departments and packages. This expertise accelerated his nearly 20-year career with the city, which included roles as finance and analytics director, assistant city manager and, not so long ago, assistant city manager.
Barton helped guide the city through the financial downturn in the pandemic and served as the staff director of the $ 293 million Coronavirus Relief Fund, which provided residents and local businesses with vital resources to help deal with the pandemic in response to the city.
In response to the city, Barton has overseen the city’s police, chimney, neighborhood services, financial improvement, library providers, and education departments on numerous occasions.
