Phoenix Fire Fighters fight pallet fires at a warehouse near 27th Avenue and McDowell Road. PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Just one day after firefighters west of Phoenix battled a massive recycling fire, firefighters were called again on Sunday to fight another fire. The first alarm fire broke out in a store near 29th Avenue and McDowell Road. It broke out around 3:30 p.m. You could see the smoke rising for miles. The Arizona family crews arrived just as firefighters were arriving on site. Black smoke and huge flames rose from the building. The Phoenix Fire Department referred to it as a pallet fire. It all started with Mason Mart, a building materials warehouse. Firefighters say the fire could have spread so quickly because of the wind blowing embers across the yard. It was also seen as a dangerous goods situation. “One of the fires burned near an unmarked container, so a dangerous goods component has been set up for safety reasons,” said Captain Scott Douglas of the Phoenix Fire Department. More than two dozen units responded to the crime scene. The fire brigade then had to break open a gate to get into the courtyard, which was filled with heavy smoke. The crews were able to bring the fire under control in a short time and bring the flames under control. Nobody was hurt. Investigators are looking for the cause. Firefighters Still Put Out Hot Spots After Massive Recycle Fire In PhoenixThis smaller fire comes a day after a huge fire on Saturday that sent an enormous cloud of smoke into the sky over Phoenix. More than 200 firefighters fought the fire west of the city center with six alarms. The massive conflagration began in the early afternoon at Friedman Waste Control Systems northwest of 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road. On Sunday morning, 50 firefighters were still on site and were working to extinguish the burning areas in the courtyard. The fire brigade is expected to remain on site all day, using front loaders to shred the compacted cardboard and paper bales. Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Rundfunkgesellschaft).
