PHOENIX – A portion of Loop 101 north of Phoenix is the only planned closure of the Valley Freeway this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday. The Eastern Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed to sidewalk diamond cutting between State Route 51 and 56th Street from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday as an expansion project continues. The SR 51 eastbound ramps to the eastbound Loop 101 – including the HOV ramp – and the eastern Loop 101 driveway on Cave Creek Road and Tatum Boulevard will be closed. The restrictions – for lane lanes – apply every night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday. Night work is ordered on the freeway, according to ADOT, to limit the impact on travel to the COVID-19 vaccination site at State Farm Stadium. If an exit near the stadium is closed, it is recommended to use another exit nearby.
