PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – Police say impairment appears to have been a factor in a three car crash in Phoenix that killed two people and injured six others, including three children. It happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday on 37th and Grand Avenues. Phoenix Police said a driver had gone out to avoid an uninjured wreck and hit the back of a second car. The impact put the car into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a third vehicle traveling east on Grand Avenue. A man and a woman in this car were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured. (Source: 3TV / CBS 5) According to the Phoenix Fire Department, three adults and three children – a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old twins – were taken to the hospital. The women were reportedly in critical condition and the children were in stable condition. Police said there were three people in the first car, two women and three children in the second car, and a driver and two passengers in the third car. According to police, the driver of the first car showed “symptoms of impairment”. The police did not publish his name, but say he was quoted and released. They also said that additional fees are pending. Grand Avenue is closed in both directions, which means traffic in the area will be restricted. Stick with Arizona family as the story unfolds.
