An impromptu event organized by the BirdGang Travel Club called Phoenix Suns fans to Sky Harbor Airport. PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns’ four wins against the Denver Nuggets brought a large crowd of fans together to welcome the team to Sky Harbor on Sunday night. A sea of purple and orange shirts, flags and handmade posters adorned a tunnel of fans who lined up on either side of the street in front of Cutter Aviation near 24th Street and Interstate 10 at around 11:30 p.m. The winning streak has many fans who longed to win have aroused a sense of hope and nostalgia as the team now progresses to the Western Conference finals. “They’re such a team, so everyone gathers around everyone on the team,” said Tyler Vasquez, co-founder of the BirdGang Travel Club, the fan group for the Arizona Cardinals. RELATED: The Phoenix Suns Sweeped the Denver Nuggets and Fans were Ready to Party Shortly after the Suns took their semi-final victory, Vasquez and his club co-creator Eric Polansky used social media to invite fans to welcome the team home after receiving details of the team’s arrival in the valley. “When I got there there were about 50 fans,” said Vasquez. “But every time you turned around, more and more came up to us and the next thing we know is that there are 300 to 400 fans all in one place ready to say ‘Hey’ to the team.” The plane started with confusion when Bird Gang initially told fans to congregate on the south side of Swift Aviation, the wrong company, but ended up with fans pumping some of the players with their fists, briskly from the assembled crowd were surprised. “Honestly, it’s the first time I’ve seen someone like an athlete like this,” said Antonio Perez, one of the many fans who took photos and videos as the Sun players exited the airport in their respective cars. RELATED: Denver frustrations boil over, Sun’s complete momentum and progression with 125-118 wins – Deondre Ayton, Devon Booker, Cameron Payne, and even head coach Monty Williams and Suns owner Robert Sarver were some of the team members who took a moment to interact with the many people eagerly awaiting their arrival. “I feel great,” said Deondre Ayton as he drove past the row of fans. “Our fans, it’s the fans that motivate us.” Booker was also riding in the back seat of his car when his dog named Haven, a roughly 140-pound Cane Corso, sat in the passenger seat and said, “I love these fans, check this out.” “I feel good,” said Cameron Payne as he drove his gleaming red Corvette. “I love the sun fans, I love them, yes sir,” he added. Fans of all ages surrounded every passing car and cheered the team on, even though it was a late Sunday night. “My wife showed me on Facebook and I said ‘let’s go!’ I knocked out the kids and said, ‘Let’s do this!’ ”Said Joseph Rivera. “I work at four in the morning, I’m a die-hard Suns fan, so it’s worth it.” With the Suns having yet another mountain to climb to claim victory, Suns team owner Robert Sarver said he was very pleased with the team’s booth, but added, “We still have eight to go.” BirdGang Travel Club is now considering creating a similar group for the Phoenix Suns, hoping not only to collect the Valley at home, but also when the team takes to the streets. “Everyone wants something to cheer on and at the end of the day they give us something to cheer on,” said Vasquez. “So that’s definitely appreciated and evident through last night’s night [homecoming] replies. “Sports See more of the latest sports videos on YouTube Channel 12 News.
