PHOENIX (3TV / CBS 5) – For the third time in less than a week, Phoenix Firefighters fought another fire at a recycling facility on Thursday afternoon, sending heavy clouds of black smoke into the air west of downtown. 3TV / CBS 5 The two-alarm fire began near McDowell and 20th Avenue at Liberty Iron and Metal. About 60 firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames from huge piles of recycled debris, while plant workers used giant hooks to expose hot spots in the piles. Phoenix Fire spokesman David Ramirez said they were not currently aware of any injuries from the fire. Phoenix Police have closed McDowell Road between Grand Avenue and 23rd Avenues. The pallet fire broke out on Sunday around 3:30 p.m. Because of the summer heat, firefighters need to bring in additional crews, who change frequently, to keep firefighters from being overwhelmed by the heat, say firefighters. The cause of fire is not discovered yet. Phoenix fire teams are prepared with IV bags to tackle fires in extreme heat Copyright 2021 KPHO / KTVK (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation). All rights reserved.
