ANTHEM, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – One person was killed and a toddler was rushed to hospital after a car transporter detached itself from a pickup truck on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix Monday morning. It happened around 3:30 a.m. north of Pioneer Road. Aerial photos of the crime scene show the truck in a culvert. According to the Department of Public Safety, the truck came off the right side of the lane and drove several hundred feet before hitting a box culvert. According to DPS, there were five vehicles on the car transporter. Though investigators haven’t established how it happened, they say the car transporter detached from the pickup and crushed it. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Further information about her was not immediately available. The wreck created a two-lane block on I-17 heading north near Daisy Mountain Drive. The traffic slowly passed in the left lane. There is no estimated time for the lanes to reopen, but expect a delay. Stay with Arizona’s family for the latest on this incident.
