PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE) – The Greater Phoenix Chamber announced the eleven women selected as finalists for its prestigious ATHENA Awards, continuing its strong tradition of honoring outstanding Valley businesswomen.
The University of Phoenix is pleased to announce that Kathleen Winston, Ph.D., RN, Dean of the College of Nursing, is one of eleven finalists for leadership in her field, caring for other women throughout their careers, and commitment to the community non-profit service.

Dr. Winston has extensive experience in the nursing industry as a clinician, educator, and academic dean. Widely regarded as a professional, administrator, scientist and executive in the higher education sector, Winston has over thirty years of experience in nursing education. She also directed a research fellowship from the National Institute of Health for graduate education in high-risk home nursing practice, and as a curriculum expert, Dr. Winston is the lead author of the California Healthcare Workforce’s National Standardized Nursing Curriculum Project.
The Greater Phoenix Chamber’s ATHENA Awards program recognizes and celebrates the achievements of business women in the Greater Phoenix region. The ATHENA Award, an internationally recognized award, honors women who show outstanding performance in professional leadership, community service and as mentors for future managers. ATHENA winners across all industries are challenged to continue their commitment to leadership, service and mentoring. Each year, the award highlights three women who are at the forefront in their field and who invest in their careers, their community and other women.
