Cricket: Birmingham Phoenix confirm coaching line ups for The Hundred, Sports News

Birmingham Phoenix has completed its coaching teams ahead of The Hundred’s launch. Andrew McDonald will not be traveling to England this summer due to the ongoing global problems caused by the pandemic. Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori will take on the role of interim men’s head coach this summer while McDonald will assist the team as an advisor before returning as men’s head coach in 2022. Vettori, New Zealand’s greatest cricketer of all time, has gained extensive coaching experience by he directed Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and Middlesex in the Vitality Blast. He is supported by two assistant coaches – Alex Gidman and James Franklin, who have extensive experience in England both on and off the field and are currently head coaches at Worcestershire and Durham respectively. Ben Sawyer remains the women’s team head coach with some exciting additions to his backroom team. Former English cricketer Caroline Foster (née Atkins) is one of three assistant coaches currently coaching the Warwickshire and Worcestershire women’s teams alongside Dominic Ostler and Gareth Davies. Our squad looks really strong and we want to build a winning team and hopefully bring the Hundred Trophy to Birmingham. ”Andrew McDonald commented,“ It was a really tough decision not to travel this summer and I’m very sad that I don’t I will be there personally to coach the team. I will do everything I can to provide Daniel and his team with advice and support and I look forward to being personally involved next season. ”Caroline Foster said:“ I am very excited to be working with Birmingham Phoenix this summer. Ben is a fantastic coach with worldwide experience and I can’t wait to work with him and the players to create an incredibly exciting moment not just for Birmingham Phoenix but for women’s cricket as a whole. ”
