London [UK]June 22nd (ANI): Former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin has been named assistant coach for the Birmingham Phoenix men’s team at The Hundred. According to The Hundred, Andrew McDonald is due this summer due to the ongoing global problems caused by the pandemic. Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori will take on the role of interim men’s head coach this summer, while McDonald will assist the team as an advisor before returning as men’s head coach in 2022. Difficult decision not to travel this summer and I am very sad that I won’t be there personally to coach the team. I will do everything I can to provide Daniel and his team with advice and assistance and I am looking forward to playing a role personally in the next season, “said Mcdonald in a statement. Vettori is supported by two co- Assisted coaches – Alex Gidman and Franklin – who have extensive experience in England both on and off the field are currently head coaches in Worcestershire and Durham respectively. We will continue to communicate regularly and Andrew’s advice will be critical to our success. Ours Squad looks really strong and we want to build a winning team and hopefully bring the Hundred trophy to Birmingham, “said Vettori. Five Indian cricketers – Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma – will be seen in action in the first edition of The Hundred. Shafali Verma is the number one short-form battern and is changing to replace for Sophie Devine in the women’s team at Birmingham Phoenix. (ANI)
